Gaining

Why significant weight gain takes discipline.

You commit yourself to a cause. And that cause is to get as fat as you see fit.

The amount of calories you have to consume to do that is substantial. For me, I needed to make a conscious effort to make sure anything that goes into my body is heavy on calories.

I swapped out water for juice and soda. I make sure I clean my plate every single time I eat it (and I load that plate up), and I make sure that I do not burn more calories than I take in.

I'm thankful that my body allows me to store fat easily, I know some of you don't have it that easy.

But regardless, gaining takes commitment and discipline to stay on the course. It's hard work and worthy of all of the respect in the world.

Why significant weight gain takes discipline.

Well said! I see so many questions of people pigging out for a few days and hoping to be huge in no time. It doesn't work that fast! Gaining is a marathon not a sprint. Just do the math. 1lb of body fat is 3500 calories. That is in excess to what you burn everyday just existing! Which is 2000-2500 roughly. To gain 1lb in 1 day would be at least 5500 calories! Then take into account that fat is distributed all over your body. So it takes substantial amounts of it to be noticeable.
Of course it can be done. Look at all the people who have gained. But, just like people who are losing weight it's a life style change. Most successful habits or life changes take gradual change. If you start downing cartons of heavy cream each day not only will your body not be able to digest it all, but you won't be able to keep that up and will end up giving up. Like you said, change things you normally do with some thing slightly different, soda instead of water. Then keep adding things. Also, keep track of calories! Just how people trying to lose weight underestimate how many calories they eat in a day. The same can happen with gaining.
I've gone from about 140ish to 215ish in a bit less than a year. I could have gained faster but took some breaks in between. But even still it took a lot of hard work. Expensive too! All issues that can be overcome. Trust me, I want to be fat fast just as much as the next person. But tempering your expectations and having a game plan and idea of what it will take is the best path to success. Best of luck everyone!
